Bio

I worked for five years at a Christian counseling agency in Lansing, IL before transitioning into church ministry. I served two different churches as an associate pastor in my hometown of Highland, Indiana for 11 years. I wrote a book called When Father is a Bad Word, which was published in 2013. I then began a not-for-profit ministry called Finding Father's Love. In addition to one-on-one life coaching, I now travel the country speaking to different organizations, groups, and churches, covering topics like family dysfunction, addiction, forgiveness, sexuality, and discovering our purpose. My life's mission is to make an eternal difference in the lives of others by helping them to experience the same love, healing, and grace that I have been blessed to experience. The ministry of Battle Cry dovetails nicely with what I do. I did my initial weekend in Texas in 2009 and have staffed over 30 weekends since. I am committed to do all that I can to help others live their best life. My wife and I are the parents of three grown children, are the grandparents of eight, and live in South Bend, Indiana.

Coaching Certifications

I am a licensed pastor and have been certified as an addictions counselor at Grant Hospital in Chicago. I have been a life coach for several years.

Coaching Philosophy

As an adult child of an alcoholic, I grew up following the three rules of an alcoholic home: don't talk, don't trust, don't feel. I have discovered that those three rules apply in most homes in which there is dysfunction of any kind (divorce, depression, death, abandonment, abuse, etc.). Healing for those who come from such environments begins to take place once we go back and break those rules. We must learn how to talk, to trust, and feel. I am a big believer in counseling. I wouldn't be here without the healing counsel I was blessed to receive in my journey. The truth of the matter is, if we're honest, we all have baggage in our lives. We need to find people who we can trust who will help us unpack!

My greatest achievements in life are being married to the same wonderful woman for 43 years and getting all three of my children through college. They have all grown up to be self-sufficient professionals in society. I have had an eclectic career path in life, from firefighter paramedic to running four different businesses ranging from finance and real estate to martial arts, e-commerce, and professional coaching. In addition to my enjoyment in coaching individuals I am passionate about health, nutrition and fitness. I have been an athlete all my life, I owned and operated a Martial Arts School and competed in Olympic Lifting at an international competitive level. I believe in the importance of nurturing both the mind and body for overall well-being. Whether it's managing stress, improving self-care habits, or adopting a healthier lifestyle, I provide guidance and support to help men cultivate balance, resilience, and live in their integrity. I started my Battle Cry journey in November of 2016 with four friends who have become the greatest accountability partners in my life. I was in a desperate place then, and I can truly say Battle Cry saved my marriage. I believe my greatest asset is keeping my promises and living with integrity.

Bio

I've been an entrepreneur since I left my full-time job at a local utility company in 2001. I've started several successful businesses (and a few not so successful) since then. I've also been on a journey to know and realize my purpose here on earth. It was a struggle for me to figure out why I kept myself in "self-destructive" patterns. After several years of buying dozens of self-help books (and reading a few), attending seminars on how I can "fix" myself, and buying into everyone's idea of what's wrong with me, I came to a point where I was forced to slow down and re-evaluate everything my life. I mean everything! I had no idea that a serious "health issue" would lead me to a place of new perspective and peace. I'm excited about new beginnings and the joy this journey has given me, from places I least expected. The journey continues!

Coaching Philosophy

Most counseling from a worldly perspective starts with the premise that “something is wrong with you”. It is knowledge-based and advises you to do “something” different. The “traditional” goal is to seek behavior change, which is an “outside-in” focus. I have a different method. I use an “inside-out” focus. I start my clients off by reminding them of the promise that something is very RIGHT with them. The goal is not to give them a new set of behaviors to try, no “do this instead of that” advice. The goal is for them to realize their true identity, and to know who they are at the core of their soul. Everyone knows we should go to the gym, work out, eat right, etc., but why don’t we? Why do we keep on trying to change behaviors and failing? Because they are the symptoms, not the problem. You can’t have long-lasting behavior change without an identity change. This is the core truth to my beliefs, BEHAVIOR FOLLOWS IDENTITY. In other words, your behaviors are a symptom of your identity. Our journey is one of unbecoming who we are not so we can get back to the person we were originally created be, before the world and life got their hands on us. It’s an incredible journey with life-changing, long-lasting and fulfilling results.

I have been involved with this work since 2011. I have had significant training in carpet work and Shadow work-based coaching. However, I am a Christian first and foremost and put most of my reliance on the Holy Spirit to do its work in people's lives and in their healing. Jesus Christ is the only true source of healing. Some of my clients have called me "The Gentle Healer." If you are trying to figure out why you do the things you do, if you are looking for healing from your past, if you are looking for someone to go deep and bring down the strongholds in your life, then I would be honored to walk along with you on that journey.

Bio

About 2 weeks before my initial weekend in March of 2018, I was standing in my family room looking out the window at the bird feeder in the backyard, and I saw something moving on the ground under the feeder. I picked up a flashlight to see what it was and I saw a possum walking around under the feeder, eating all the bird seed that the squirrels knocked down on the ground. I kept following that possum with my flashlight for several minutes as he made his way around the birdfeeder post. He was completely focused on eating that seed - and completely oblivious to this ultra-bright light that was shining on him. I was really just trying to get his attention. I remember calling out to him, “Ah, hello! I can see you!! Why are you not noticing me or paying attention to me? Can’t you see this bright light that I am shining on you??”. He didn’t have a clue. Neither did I. And there it was.
I realized that I was that possum - head down, blindly focused on gathering, acquiring, consuming (just as the world taught me), and not paying attention at all to this bright light that God was shining down on me. He was trying to get my attention. He knew that I had gotten so far away from the person he created me to be. He knew I was lost. Little did I know, but it was my time…and the journey began. And as much as I hated to admit it back then, I realized that I could not do this alone. Asking for help was one of the hardest parts of the journey. Since then, I have leaned on countless Redwoods for their guidance, support and encouragement, which gave me the hope that I actually could live the life I wanted and I actually could be the man I want to be. This has become my calling, to be a Redwood for other men, offering hope and support, so they too can thrive and live their best lives as they stand strong and grow tall in their own unique way. What’s your story? Who are you, really? What does your “best life” look like? Are you living the life you’ve always dreamed of - or are you stuck, tired, and frustrated? It’s time to awaken, stand tall, and be the man you were meant to be.
